Hamilton Green

Hamilton Green is a senior Ph.D. candidate in the Microbe-Host Interactions graduate program at Vanderbilt University. My current mentors are Maria Hadjifrangiskou Ph.D. and Jonathan Schmitz M.D. Ph.D.; we seek to understand the genotypic and phenotypic underlying of clinical bacterial isolates specifically uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) the causative agent of urinary tract infections (UTIs). My dissertation is to characterize an understudied UPEC clinical isolate phenotype and relegate its importance during chronic UTIs.  My project has created the chance to participate in presentations at relevant scientific conferences and to write manuscripts for academic journals. My long-term goals are to transition into the field of public health, in hopes of applying my bacterial knowledge in the areas of infectious disease or food and safety. I envision myself being a director for governmental agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
