The Minority International Research Training (MIRT) program offers a global laboratory experience for students interested in biomedical research through summer internships in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. The MIRT program's goal is to enhance the professional status and research capability of underrepresented populations of undergraduate, pre-doctoral and young faculty scientists. The program offers training and collaborative research at leading international universities. The MIRT program is offered from the campuses of five Leadership Alliance member institutions:

  Since 1993, the Fogarty International Center (FIC) and the Office of Research on Minority Health (ORMH) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have jointly supported scientific training programs that offer international research training opportunities to qualified undergraduates, graduate and medical students underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research careers.
