Could you talk about any memorable experiences from your summer research at Columbia?
- This was my first time out of my town in Puerto Rico, and my first time working at a university in another language. It was challenging, but it was a great experience and I was very grateful for it.
Can you talk about how your summer experience prepared you for graduate school?
- I was thinking about medical school before, but this summer really exposed me to different research techniques. The Leadership Alliance helped me learn that I love research.
What advice would you give to this year’s Leadership Alliance participants?
- You have to try and set your goals really high. Sometimes you’ll struggle being in a new environment, but it’s important to take the challenge and meet new people.
As you move into your career, you should get involved beyond research, with community service, conferences, professional associations, and networking. Do more than your part. |
